Some of you will know that I have begun a youtube channel - John Shepherd Track & field Coach - author & editor Couldn't think of a better name! I've been taking it a bit more seriously over the last 6 weeks, but especially last 3. This seems to have paid some dividends as I now have 32 subscribers (!) and have had 5,000 minutes of watch time and over 4,000 views. Perhaps more important is that most of the more detailed videos of 2-5 minutes length are being watched for more than 50% of their run time - so they can't be that boring (can they?). One on long jump technique (focussing on the hang and the hitch-kick) has been viewed 1,000 times in the last month alone (apparently it's popular in India!). The channel contains video and some audio commentaries on coaching long, triple, sprints and multi-events. There are 26 videos so far and they are mostly divided into the following categories (I aim to add a video every week to two): Coach Tips - longer videos (around 5 minutes) that consider an element of performance in relative detail e.g. bounding (these are black and white - as hopefully everything in them is clear like in black and white in them!) Track & Field Coaching - these are aimed at athletes (and coaches) and focus on technique i.e. the long jump run up and triple jump technique. Strength and Conditioning - these videos deal with a conditioning element that's relevant to better track and field performance e.g. plyometrics. Coach Talk John's Vlog - here I try to talk about areas of performance that don't easily translate to full video i.e. overspeed training and periodisation and the short to long method... Fitness - I only have one video up on this at the moment, but I may add more about fitness issue videos i.e. weight training for women and why building bigger biceps could be a waste of time. Here's a Track & Field Coaching video on long jump that's proved popular. It'll take you to the channel too, so, if you are minded, please support and subscribe. |
